Birdie Birdie

Pigeons hangout outside my window all the time but today I saw something I had never seen before. Right outside my window there is always water dripping from the AC unit so there is like a green patch of grass growing. Today there was a pigeon though showering under the dripping water. It was weird watching the pigeon put its head under the water and then roll over. He then moved a bit forward, lifted up his wing and started letting the water drip under it. He spent 10 minutes at least rolling around under the water, I guess he was cooling down from the summer heat or just cleaning up but whatever it was doing it was extremely fun to watch. Such a cute birdie..

kwtfire.gov.kw

Today on my way back home I noticed some fire trucks parked behind a building in Salmiya. I decided to go see if there was a photo opportunity and turns out there was. While I was taking pictures a guy in local clothing (Dishdashe) came up to me and asked me what I was shooting. I told him (in Arabic) that I was shooting the fire trucks. He asked me where I was from and I told him I was from Lebanon. He then told me if I couldn't get a decent shot from where I was standing I could get closer to the trucks and shoot from there. I thanked him and went and took more shots from a closer perspective. On my way out he told me if this wasn't enough I would be more then welcome to pass by the fire station and take pictures there. I asked him if it was possible to tag a long for a day taking pictures, he told me yeah that wouldn't be a problem and to pass by whenever I wanted to. He then got into a red fire department nissan and left. Once the weather cools down a bit I am going to take a day off work and hang out with the fire fighters for a day. That should turn out to be very fucking cool.

Bakala

We are too lazy in Kuwait. You park outside a grocery store, honk your horn and someone comes to your car to take your order. I love it.

Birdies

This is a sculpture located behind McDonalds on the sea side. I don't know the exact details but I believe this sculpture was designed by Ahmed Jafar after the Gulf War. I could be wrong about this though.

Low Tide

Oh my way to work today I decided to stop by the beach. I hadn't taken the sea side road to work for a long time now so it was a good change. Another major change for me was the camera's lens. For the first time since December I changed my cameras lens from my usual 50mm to a 28mm. This means I will be able to take a different style of shots from my usual, I have a wider angle lens to work with now so I will be able to fit more subjects in the picture. I prefer my 50mm lens since I have gotten so used to it but change can be good thing sometimes.

Wallpaper*

Lately I have been experimenting more with colors, abstract patterns and shapes. Its an interesting direction which allows me to explore my everyday space more carefully for an arresting subject.

For some reason the song Don't Cha by the The Pussycat Dolls and featuring Busta Rhymes has been stuck in my head all day long. I hate radio trash.

Combo Breaker

Finding colorful things to shoot in Kuwait turned out to be a lot more difficult then I expected. I realized today that Kuwait is made up of very dull colors and its making my job impossible.

Stinky

I was really hoping to find a green or blue trash bin to shoot today but I only managed to find this orange one and it really smelled like shit.

Lost Dog

Found this stray dog outside Souk Sharq today. Looked really nice and clean but it didn't have a tag. It was sad watching him try to take cover from the sun. Hope he survived the day.

We Care

I was checking out some pirated DVD's today when I noticed something new. Some DVD's now have a sticker with "S&A Quality [DVD]" written on it. I asked the guy about it he told me if the DVD has this sticker on it, it means the DVD is not a cinema recording but a screener copy or DVD copy. I found that very amusing, pirates care about customer satisfaction. They have become really organized and I am sure this sticker saves them a lot of headache.

Surfs Up

Was leaving Souk Sharq after lunch today when I noticed the sidewalk next to the sea was all wet. Turns out the water level was extremely high and the waves were huge and smashing over the wall. It felt very wintery..

System-Link

The coolest thing about my brother spending the summer in Kuwait is that we have our Xbox's connected to each other. This means we can play multiplayer games whenever we want. I spent most of tonight kicking his ass in La Forza Motorsport although truth be told my cars were extremely modded. There is no way a Golf R32 could beat a Carrera GT unless there was some serious mojo under the hood. I think I am going to start playing Halo 2 this week. I have only played it a handful of times during multiplayer match-ups but I haven't played the actual game yet, so this should give me something to do while Nat is at the gym.

Day 265

I've been wanting to shoot the Kuwait Water Towers for some time now but for some reason they slipped my mind. So tonight I decided it would be a good time to shoot some. We went to the water towers in Bayan since those were the closest ones I knew of. Turns out they had blue flood lights lighting up the towers, at first I thought this would be a problem but after the first shot I knew it was going to work out better then I had planned. I shot this picture with an aperture of 13 I believe, and a shutter speed of 30 seconds. Today is Day 265, meaning there are only 100 days left till the end of the project.

The Original Dairy Queen

In the early 80s this placed in Salmiya used to be Dairy Queen. Later on it became Jashanmal who were the dealers for Hoover and Thermos. I used to get all my cool steel lunch boxes from them. Now the place is a crappy everything for 100 fils store. I miss the 80s.

Super Nintendo

Today I am the happiest guy in the world. I went and purchased a brand new Super Nintendo system for only KD15! My original old Super Nintendo is in Lebanon, I only have the games with me here in Kuwait and I really miss playing some of them. Finding a brand new SNES in the year 2005 is like a miracle, finding it for KD15 is unbelievable, it just doesn't happen. I plugged it in and played some Donkey Kong Country, Mortal Kombat II, and Stunt Race FX earlier. These games brought back a lot of good memories and I still have a ton of more games to play. One game I need which I don't have is Super Metroid, but I am sure I will be able to get one online. SNES rules, Genesis sucks!

The Rings

Today was my brothers birthday so we went to Bourj Al Hamam restaurant, other then that it was a pretty quiet day. This shot is of the lights outside the restaurant taken at a high shutter speed.
