Beige

The buildings in Kuwait all seem to be the same color, I hate it. If its not beige its peach and if its not peach its beige. Kuwait is visually boring and it sucks.

I hate most buildings in Kuwait, regardless of color. They all seem to be designed cheaply to accommodate as many tenants as possible and nothing else. Aesthetics are the last thing on the owner's mind. Sad.

Kuwait is not visually boring, you just need the eye for it. It's rich with colors and visuals as any other country, It's just the way you perceive it.

If you want to talk about architecture, that's a whole another story.

I'm sorry if I sounded harsh but so was your statment.

you are not being harsh but you also aren't convincing. Kuwait is not a colorful country. You are mostly surrounded by sand and sand colored buildings. Its like monotone. if you want I could take another picture out of the room i am in at the moment which you would see atleast 23 buildings (i just quickly counted them there are actually more further away) that all are beige. maybe you could take a picture out of your window showing colorful buildings?

As I said, architecture is another story.

I'm only commenting on the "kuwait is visually boring" part.

I just think the term "visually borning" is very relative, You live in the city ... I live in jahra, we been here for a different periods of time.

Keep in mind kuwait actually was a desert (kinda still) but even in a desert you'll find a spectrum of colors and visuals you might not find in other countries (european countries for example). Kuwait IS rich with colors, just look at all the photos you been taking since miskan started (although I know it was getting harder and harder to find things worth shooting but hey kuwait is small too)

Color is a universal currency and it can be found anywhere in varying hues, shades and amounts.

BTW could you please fill me in about that conference where bruce mau will be speaking ... I got his book "lifestyle" right here.

He's the man ... I loved the covers he did for zone and all those tricks he does with type.

Thanks :)

Firstly i never said anything about the architecture in Kuwait being boring, all i have been talking about is the colors.

the pictures on miskan are not of apartment buildings. if there is a picture of an apartment building on miskan its usually beige colored. i wasn't bullshitting when i said there are atleast 23 buildings outside my window that are beige. actually, flip through miskan and spot the pictures which include apartment buildings, i think there are around 5 pictures and all are beige. but if you think that kuwait is colorful i guess each has their own opinion and everyone sees things differently.

About Bruce Mau, the event is still down the road (February) and I will be posting about it soon with full details (where, when, how). if you are interested in type though i just posted earlier on 248am about Eric Spiekermann's blog. he is a type guy. looking at bruce mau for type tricks is like looking at mcdonalds for a lobster dinner ;)

please tell me what is not boring about kuwait? I've been here for one month now and the only things I realized people do here are:
smoking shisa in the evening
eating dinner in a restaurant
walking through shopping moles
driving

if there is anything here to do, please tell me! if a google for "kuwait entertainment", the results are... well... mostly like:
"what? entertainment in kuwait? you are kidding! the only thing that matters here is oil and money! the expats work 18 hours/day and the natives only drive around the rings, if you wanna entertainment, go somewhere else"

You have to understand that if you decide to embargo yourself between these building, that’s your choice. Others have different views from there windows. And talk about biting the hands that feeds you, sheeesh. Or are you going to play the “I’m a foreigner, I don’t talk Arabic” shit. You spent your life in Kuwait, many years at work, broke bread a million times here, 10 days left and that’s what you have to say.
I think you should check your engines, would be a shame to crash and burn in the final days.

I'm a native Kuwaiti. I left kuwait in 1998 with some visits from time to time but lately I haven't visited in a while. I actually started to miss it and all the "wonderful" places it has... untill I read this blog. I just started laughing really good, and I usually don't laugh easy.

Thank you for letting me have this great moment.

I'm Kuwaiti and I live in Kuwait.

Kuwait is visually boring. It's been 3 months since I've seen a single cloud for God's sake!! NO CLOUDS. It's just a BLANK sky. Shaded yellow/white/sickblue colored sky and there's POLLUTION too. C'mon be honest I love Kuwait but the sky is just DAMN dull (in summer only). In Winter, Kuwait is ... REALLY different.

Now, about buildings. Yeah they look the same in some areas, but this applys to most countries eh? from the way you talk I am guessing you're not living in the suburbs (where people get creative) but around larger buildings (commercial purpose, they dont want to be creative for cost effective stuff). I've been to newyork and when I reach Harlem I see these red buildings they all look the same, its not bad.

The problem with Kuwait is the atmosphere. Desert, Cloudless sky. Thats only in summer (and summer here lasts for 7 months). Kuwait in November, Dec, Jan, and Feb is very colorful from the atmosphere point of view which really reflects to everything.

Now, regardless of season the beach in Kuwait is always beautiful. The seaside is beautiful. The beach side at night from Salmiya till Kuwait city is amazingly beautiful. A big city with a sea view with lots of light and clean streets.

Conclusion: what you say is true, providing your picture at some cases Kuwait is definitely visually dull. But you've been harsh and aggresively biased with one angle point of view.
